Will VS Going to
Do you feel confused using will or going to? Have you experimented frustration because you don't understand this topic or even don't know about it but you need to speak english fluently?
DON'T WORRY! The blog Loving English♥ is going to help you.
Let's start with WILL.
It's clear that this two topics are in FUTURE form.
The WILL structure is very easy in affirmative form (I will or I'll) as in negative (I won't) and questions ( Will I...?)
But, why do we use the modal auxiliary will?
1. When we don't plan anything, we make the decision spontaneously at the time of speaking.
- I will see what I can do to help you.
- Just wait there, I'll call an ambulance.
- Perhaps, they will stay here to watch a movie.
2. When we make a prediction about the future, we're just saying what we think will happen.
- It's very dark, I think it will rain.
- Will you get the job?
Let's continue with GOING TO
Again, the structure is simple:
Now, we use going to in the next two cases:
1. To express a plan or intention in the future:
- I'm going to spend my holidays in Miami.
- My brother isn't going to study Medicine.
- Are they going to celebrate your birthday party next weekend?
2. To give commands or state that something is obligatory:
- You're not going to stay at your friend's house!
- My students are going to do a very long homework.
Thanks!😊
